Ecology
Ecology is our way of life. That’s why Key Resorts don’t just preserve nature and the environment, but actively nurture them. Water is a precious resource, and we feel a responsability to protect it. Elaborate drainage systems collect the rainwater falling on our resorts and direct it to the golf ponds. All golf courses and parks are irrigated with water from these ponds. Proprietary wastewater treatment in one of Europe’s most modern reprocessing plants ensures that wastewater from all resorts is cleaned so thoroughly that we can use it to water our golf courses and parks – in an environmentally sound and efficient way. Each resort also features its own water reservoir, enabling irrigation of the Landscape for several months without rain. Golfing that’s 100% ecological: we have developed and constructed Spain’s firts completely ecological golf course. By building the greens on a layer of biodegradable foam, the evaporation of water is reduced by 70% - as certified by the University of Wageningen in the Netherlands. And by using only 'Controlled and Slow Release Fertilisers' – special organic capsules covered in a resinous membrane that release their active ingredients over a three-month period – we avoid environmental damage by over-fertilisation. In conjunction with the foam layer, this ensures that no fertiliser filters down into the groundwater (0% - compared with 85% using convencional methods) and reduces fertiliser consumption by 66%. But that’s not enough for us: in our golf ponds – the only ones of their kind in the world – ionised oxygen is used in a process originating in Germany to keep them free of undesired legionella, algae and germs without chemicals, as certified by the University of Bremen. This system has been developed in a pioncering effort on the part of Key Resorts.
